Immediate Feedback assignments give students real-time AI feedback the moment they submit, so they can revise and resubmit during class. You set it up just like any assignment, then choose Instant AI Feedback and set the number of attempts. Here's how.
At a glance: Add assignment → From scratch → fill the details → Instant AI Feedback → set attempts and score visibility → assign to a class → Publish.
Step 1. Start a new assignment
On your dashboard, click Add assignment, choose Assign work on EnlightenAI, then From scratch. (For the full assignment basics, see How to Create Your First Assignment.)
Step 2. Fill in the assignment details
Add a title, the prompt students will respond to, the grade level, and the rubric the AI grades against — exactly like any assignment. Immediate Feedback works best for short, in-class writing. Click Next step.
Step 3. Choose Instant AI Feedback
On the publish step, pick Instant AI Feedback. Students get AI feedback the moment they submit, so they can revise and resubmit on the spot. This choice can't be changed after publishing.
Step 4. Set how many attempts students get
Under Student attempts, use the + and − buttons to set how many times a student can submit and revise (up to 8). More attempts means more chances to act on the feedback.
Step 5. Choose when students see their score
Decide when the numeric score appears: Every attempt, Last attempt only, or Never. Hiding the score until the last attempt keeps students focused on the feedback and revising, not the number.
Step 6. Assign it to a class
Click + Add classes and check the class that will do this Immediate Feedback activity, then click Done.
Step 7. Publish for instant feedback
Click Publish assignment. As soon as a student submits, EnlightenAI returns feedback in real time — perfect for a live writing block where students revise as they go.
Step 8. Your Immediate Feedback assignment is live
The assignment is published to your class. During class, students open it, write, and submit for instant AI feedback — and you can follow along live from the assignment's dashboard.
