Why is a button greyed out or disabled?

A button is greyed out in EnlightenAI when a required field is empty, your AI isn't trained, a rubric is locked, or you've hit your plan limit.

A button is greyed out in EnlightenAI when something it needs isn't ready yet — a required field is empty, your AI isn't trained, a rubric is locked, a student is missing a home language, or you've reached your plan limit. Hover over the button to see a tooltip explaining the exact reason, then use the matching fix below.

Why is Publish greyed out?

Publish stays disabled until every required field is filled in. If you hover over it, you'll see "Please select all required fields" — usually a missing course, or for shared assignments a missing subject, grade, assessment type, or keyword. Fill in the highlighted fields and Publish turns blue.

Why can't I change the rubric on this assignment?

When you've already trained the AI on a rubric, the rubric selector and the Rubrics button are locked so your training stays valid. To switch rubrics, click the pencil icon to remove the training first, then choose a new rubric.

Why is the grading or training button disabled?

AI training is measured by graded samples. You reach 100% trained at 5 graded samples — fewer than that shows partial progress. Grade more sample submissions to finish training. Note that AI training samples cannot be edited after an assignment is published.

Why is Save greyed out on a student's accommodations?

If you turn on translated feedback for a student but haven't picked their language, Save is blocked with the tooltip "Set a home language before saving." Choose the student's home language, and Save becomes available. The language is saved to their account, so other teachers won't need to set it again.

Why does it say I'm out of submissions?

If Publish shows "Insufficient submissions remaining," you've reached your plan's quota. The Free Forever plan includes 500 submissions per month, and Immediate Feedback assignments use quota per student per attempt. Wait for your monthly reset, reduce the number of students or attempts, or contact us about a school plan.
