What does the Regenerate button do?

Regenerate rewrites EnlightenAI's feedback text while keeping rubric scores. Save your edits first, since it replaces unsaved changes.

Written by Gautam Thapar

The Regenerate button asks EnlightenAI to write a fresh version of the feedback text for a student's submission. It keeps your existing rubric scores and only rewrites the written feedback, so the scoring you reviewed stays in place.

What exactly changes when I click Regenerate?

Regenerate replaces the written feedback sections — the comprehensive feedback, areas of strength, and areas of growth — with newly generated text. Your rubric criteria and the points scored on each level are preserved, not regenerated. Use it when the AI's wording misses the mark and you'd like a different take without redoing the scoring.

Will it erase edits I've made to the feedback?

Yes. Regenerate overwrites the current feedback text, including any unsaved changes you've typed. If you've already started editing the AI's feedback and want to keep that work, save your grading first before clicking Regenerate. Once you regenerate, the previous text cannot be recovered.

When should I use it?

Reach for Regenerate when:

  • The tone or wording of the feedback isn't quite right.

  • The AI generation failed and you want to try again.

  • You want a fresh draft to edit from, and the rubric scores are already correct.

If you only need small wording tweaks, it's usually faster to edit the existing feedback by hand than to regenerate the whole thing.
