A student's home language locks the moment it's first set so every translated piece of feedback stays in the same language. Once it's saved, a teacher can't change it from the accommodations panel — if you try, you'll see a home_language_already_set error.
Why does the home language lock?
Translations are meant to be consistent. EnlightenAI translates feedback into the student's home language so the student always reads feedback in one familiar language. Letting it change mid-stream could mean a student gets some feedback in one language and the rest in another, which is confusing and undercuts the accommodation.
To prevent that, the home language can be set once. After that it's locked: setting it to a different language returns the home_language_already_set error. Setting it to the same value, or clearing it where the rules allow, is fine.
Which languages are supported?
EnlightenAI supports 7 home languages for translated feedback:
Spanish (Español)
Mandarin (中文)
Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt)
Arabic (العربية)
Haitian Creole (Kreyòl Ayisyen)
French (Français)
Portuguese (Português)
What if the wrong language was set?
If a home language was chosen by mistake, teachers can't override it themselves. Reach out to our support team and we can reset it for the student so the correct language can be set.
