Removing or archiving a student from a class

Archive a student from a class in EnlightenAI to hide them while keeping all their work. Note: Clever rosters may re-add them.

Written by Gautam Thapar

To remove a student from a class in EnlightenAI, archive them: open the course, go to the Students tab, click Actions next to the student, and choose Archive. Archiving hides the student from the active roster while keeping all of their submissions and feedback intact.

How do I archive a student?

  1. Open the course and select the Students tab.

  2. Find the student in the list.

  3. Click the Actions menu next to their name.

  4. Choose Archive.

The student moves out of your active roster right away. Nothing is deleted: their work, gradings, and feedback are preserved.

Can I bring an archived student back?

Yes. Archiving is reversible. In the same Students list, open the Actions menu for an archived student and choose Unarchive to return them to the active roster. Their previous work is still there.

What about classes rostered through Clever?

If your class is synced from Clever, be careful: EnlightenAI runs a regular roster sync, and a student you archived may be re-added to the active roster on the next sync if they are still listed in that Clever section.

To keep a student out of a Clever-rostered class for good, they need to be removed from the section in your district's Clever roster (usually by an admin or through your SIS). Once Clever no longer includes them, they will stop being re-added.
