How Clever rostering works

Learn how EnlightenAI's Clever integration auto-rosters your schools, classes, students, and teachers through a daily district-level sync.

Written by Gautam Thapar

When your district connects Clever to EnlightenAI, your schools, classes, students, and teachers are rostered automatically and refreshed by a daily sync. A district admin sets up the connection once, and everyone signs in with Clever SSO.

What does Clever sync into EnlightenAI?

The Clever integration is a one-way sync from Clever into EnlightenAI. It brings over your full roster so you don't have to build it by hand.

  • District & schools — your district and each of its schools become organizations in EnlightenAI

  • Teachers, staff & district admins — user accounts and their roles are created

  • Students — student accounts, including grade level

  • Classes — Clever sections become courses, with the right students enrolled and teachers (and co-teachers) attached

Because the sync is one-way, Clever is always the source of truth. Roster changes you make in your SIS flow into EnlightenAI, not the other way around.

Who sets up the Clever connection?

Setup happens at the district level and is done by a district administrator through Clever. Individual teachers don't need to connect anything themselves — once the district is connected, your classes and students appear automatically.

How often does the roster update?

EnlightenAI runs a Clever sync every day. Each district's sync is staggered across the day for reliability, so newly added students, teachers, or classes from your SIS are picked up automatically within about a day — no manual refresh needed.

How do teachers and students log in?

Everyone signs in using Clever SSO. Teachers and students log in through Clever rather than creating a separate EnlightenAI password. Clever sign-in is matched strictly to your Clever account, which keeps your district's single sign-on controls in place.
