Be clear and concise in word choice.
State evidence explicitly.
When checking for specific evidence in writing, clearly state whether the evidence is present or missing.
Example: For properly cited textual evidence, use a phrase like “Proper citing of evidence from the text was/was not evident in your writing.”
Keep feedback brief and digestible.
The AI tends to be overly detailed, sometimes exceeding the length of the original writing.
Use prompts like “Provide feedback in short, bulleted segments that a 6th grader can easily understand.”
Adjust language for readability.
Request responses in a language a few grade levels below your students’ level to ensure clarity.
Use a structured feedback format:
“Always structure feedback as follows: Strengths: - point form strengths Needs: - point form needs Next Step: - point form next step. Identify a next step applicable across a range of writing responses.”
