Step 5: Providing your AI assistant with special instructions can help adjust the feedback. This can also be done once you begin grading. Don't forget to save your custom set up before moving on!
Step 6: Click "Start grading" to begin.
Step 7: You will progress through several student responses to train your AI assistant. This is an opportunity to:
Adjust how the AI provides feedback. It will adjust to your style.
Adjust grades when your professional judgement disagrees with the AI.
Review student work, grades, and feedback, and adjust where necessary.
Here are some tips on how to best train your AI assistant:
Be consistent and concise in your word choice.
When correcting for particular evidence within writing, clearly state if the evidence is there, or if the evidence is not there, in each piece of the trainer samples. Example; when looking for evidence from the text cited properly, use a phrase like, “Proper citing of evidence from the text was/was not evident in your writing."
The AI has a tendency to be long-winded in its responses , often providing feedback longer than the writing itself. The AI responds well to prompts like “provide feedback in short, bulleted segments that are easy for a 6th grader to digest."
Consider asking the AI to respond in language a few grade levels below the grade level of your students to ensure readability.
Give the AI an example structure for your feedback. “Always structure feedback as follows:
"Strengths: - point form strengths
Needs: - point form needs
Next Step: - point form next step. Identify a next step applicable across a range of writing responses".
Step 8: Clicking on the rubric easily adjusts the score given.
Step 9: After grading at least 5 student submissions, you have the option to select "AI Generate Remaining."
Step 10: Congratulations! You've graded your assessment using EnlightenAI!
Step 11: At this point, you have the option to select "Review Student Submissions" to ensure you agree with the scores and feedback.
Step 12: You will be presented with an overview of student grades and options for sending feedback to the students. The tabs at the top give you different views of your data.
Step 13: Clicking on "Trends and insights" will give you an overview of strengths, needs, and next steps for your class as well as insights for individual students.
Step 14: "Data-driven resources" allows you to use EnlightenAI to easily create resources to address the specific needs in your classroom using your assessment data.
Step 15: You can send your students their feedback and grades in a variety of ways (e.g. PDF, inserting feedback and grades into student document, email).
